Master & Dynamic ME05 Earphones Review

Earlier this year I got to try out Master & Dynamic’s MW60 over-ear headphones which were amazing. The luxury audio brand has been making waves with a range of premium headphones and earphones so I was keen to try out some of their other offerings. Since then I have been using the Master & Dynamic ME05 in-ear headphones made from solid brass and they didn’t disappoint.

Master & Dynamic ME05 Review: In the box

As you would expect from a Master & Dynamic product even the packaging oozes class. Inside the main box there’s a circular box made of leather that contains the earphones themselves. Also inside this leather case you’ll find small, medium and large ear buds, a couple of spare filters and a carrying pouch. Inside the main box you’ll also find a clothing clip, micro fibre cleaning cloth and the instruction manual.

Master & Dynamic ME05 Review: Design

The ME05s are made from solid brass which is polished to the point where it appears to be gold. To some this gold colouring might be a deal breaker but it has been used subtleley enough that you can still rock them in a professional setting. As far as in-ear headphones go the ME05s are pretty heavy when you have them in hand but still feel comfortable to wear even for long periods. The tangle resistant cable is very welcome too.

For those with iPhones the ME05s have iOS compatible inline controls as well as a separate speaker for hands-free calling. Compatibility seems sporadic on other devices. I can play/pause music on my Google Pixel as well as activate the Google Assistant but the volume controls don’t work.

The filters can be removed for easy cleaning or be replaced by the spares that come in the box. I was grateful for the spares when I managed to lose one of these after it came unscrewed inside my pocket and went missing.

Master & Dynamic ME05 Review: Sound & Performance

When it comes to the actual sound the ME05s don’t disappoint. They offer a balanced sound across the bass, mids and treble meaning they sound great whatever music you’re into. I spent the majority of the time listening on my Google Pixel while I was out and about and didn’t want to carry my MW60s with me. They offer good noise cancellation to drown out the annoyances of public transport.

Master & Dynamic ME05 Review: Conclusion

Priced at £180 the Master & Dynamic ME05s are certainly expensive for a set of in-ear headphones. Despite this hefty price tag they are more than worth every penny offering great sound, classy design and excellent build quality.

A great set of earphones that combine a great look with great sound to justify a hefty price tag.
