“May the force be with you” has been voted most iconic movie line of all time. That is according to a survey conducted by technology company Lenovo earlier this month.
The line is uttered by General Dodonna just prior to the Death Star battle in Star Wars: A New Hope.
With 19% of the vote, the phrase was comfortably ahead of “Nobody puts baby in a corner” (Dirty Dancing) and “Here’s Johnny!” (The Shining) that both polled 11% each.
Rounding out the top five were lines from Silence of the Lambs and Gone with the Wind. Check out the full top five below:
- “May the Force be with you” – Star Wars: A New Hope
- “Nobody puts baby in a corner” – Dirty Dancing
- “Here’s Johnny!” – The Shining
- “I’m having an old friend for dinner” – Silence of the Lambs
- “After all, tomorrow is another day” – Gone with the Wind
“It isn’t surprising to see ‘May the force be with you’ voted the most iconic movie line,” remarks Dan Stephens, editor of Top 10 Films.
“The fact it has become part of pop culture lexicon tells you all you need to know about how it resonates with fans. In fact, its iconic status is underlined by the fact most will be able to quote it and tell you the film it comes from in spite of not having seen Star Wars. That’s the sign of an iconic movie line if ever there was one.”
Lenovo undertook the research to tie in with their Star Wars: Jedi Challenges augmented reality product.
Initially launched in November, Star Wars: Jedi Challenges comes with a Lenovo Mirage™ AR headset, Lightsaber controller and Tracking Beacon.
Players are led through a series of challenges by the Archivist, teaching them the ways of the force and Jedi knowledge.
Following the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Lenovo have released their first content update. This free download adds a new planet and characters from the movie.
“With Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, Lenovo and Disney are bringing Star Wars to fans in ways they could previously only imagine,” said Jeff Meredith, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Lenovo Consumer PCs & Smart Devices.
“Augmented Reality has always been an important part of Star Wars, and it’s exciting to bring these key moments to life by marrying Lenovo technology with Disney’s storytelling.”
Participants were also asked which Star Wars character they would most like to be. Princess Leia topped the poll with 17% just 1% ahead of both Darth Vader and Yoda.
The final part of the survey revealed that Darth Vader is viewed as the ultimate move villain, topping questions about voice, weaponry and attire.
