There are only 20,000 available so if you want one you gotta be quick

When Elon Musk says he is going to do something he usually follows through. However when he promised his Boring Company would sell a flamethrower most were sceptical.

The charismatic billionaire spent last year working as a hat salesman shifting 50,000 Boring Company branded hats. In December he said once they were gone the company would switch to flamethrowers. “I know it’s a little off-brand but kids love it” Musk tweeted.

Over the weekend a password protected page appeared on the Boring Company website that everyone tried to crack. Last night in a series of Twitter and Instagram posts Musk launched his Boring Company flamethrower. He also confirmed they will only sell 20,000 so better get ordering quick. Flamethrowers are available at the bargain price of $500 (plus taxes and shipping).

As Musk pointed out on Twitter a flamethrower is a great piece of kit to have when the zombie apocalypse happens.

He then went on to allay any fears that he might be planning on starting a zombie apocalypse to increase demand for said flamethrowers.

Musk also provided updates on sales with two tweets when sales hit the  1,000 and 2,000 mark.

For $30 you can also pick up a fire extinguisher. The website description admits that may be a little expensive but “this one comes with a cool sticker and the button is conveniently riiight above”.

The Boring Company is largely funded my Musk’s personal fortune with sales of these items contributing. For the most part however they are just great PR for the company. This week the company also announced plans for their first Hyperloop tunnel in LA.

I know one thing though. After seeing the Instagram video below if I ever see Elon Musk in the street I won’t be asking if he’s got a light.
